As part of the Architectural Competition Ireland Meditation Mine organised by
YoungArchitectsCompetition, in which participants were tasked with redeveloping an old
Heritage Site in the Irish Region of Cork, I created Project Triantán.
Project Triantán aims to be a Leisure and Retreat Centre situated on the old grounds of an
abandoned Copper Mine overviewing the rough Atlantic Coast of southern Ireland.
The Complex provides a variety of activities in front of the unique backdrop of high mountains
and the rough coastline, ranging from a Café/Restaurant in the Visitor Centre, a Wellness and
Meditation Centre and a local Mining and History Museum that incorporates the ruin of the
Engine House on the site.
The positions of the buildings were influenced by the natural terrain and the orientation of the
Mining ruin while all the building shapes have been derived from a triangular shape to
maximise the views over the coast and the town of Allihies.
