Tallest Timber Tower in Germany as a Sustainable Living and Working Space in the Urban Environment

Project Treehotel Hamburg was my final year 4 project and is located in the newly developing area HafenCity in Hamburg, Germany, an area which is undergoing a substantial transition from an old industrial site to a new urban centre in the city since the early 2000th.
The proposed hotel sits between a big office building and a school, to the north and south respectively and between a new park in the west and a rail line in the east. The building is only accessible by car from the north, but pedestrian access is also possible from the south which is also the direction of the closest underground stop.
The hotel features an open plaza toward the park which is aimed to invite people into the building. From the plaza people can access the building through the main lobby hall which is also used as a public exhibition space.
The building features three separate spaces, one is the double high lobby, another one is the office wing towards the north which visually connects to the neighbouring building due to the same height, and the third one the hotel tower standing out with it’s height of 87 meters which is record breaking for a timber high-rise building.
The height is achieved by using modular CLT construction together with a Glulam Exoskeleton and a Concrete Core/Concrete Support Floors.
This work-in-progress presentation was created with the use of AutoCad, Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer, Affinity Publisher, Enscape Renders and 3D Printing.
